Benefits of owning a pet bunny

When considering getting a pet, a bunny is not the first animal many think of. Many people look to dogs, cats, hamsters, or even fish, but they do not realize a bunny may be the perfect pet. Rabbits can be one of the best pets for a household; although they may not seem like it, they can become equivalent companions like dogs can. Bunnies have smarts, personality, and even sass that supply love and entertainment to any owner. In this blog you will find that rabbits have many benefits as pets.

They do not make much noise

In comparison to dogs and cats, rabbits are very quiet animals. It is uncommon for rabbits to make any noise, but if they do, it is much softer than a dog or bird. Rabbits that are happy or content will make very quiet chucks or purrs while an unhappy rabbit could grunt or growl. The few verbal noises a rabbit can make are almost unheard due to their low level. Rabbits are crepuscular meaning they are most active at dusk and dawn, which is when humans may be sleeping. Being that these are their most active hours you may occasionally hear your bunny sprinting around the room or making some noise. Regardless of the noises they are making, rabbits are not loud animals to any degree.

Rabbits bond closely with their owners

A domesticated rabbit become attached to their owners and eventually greet their owners as dogs do when you come through the door. At first, rabbits take some time to love their owners, but once they do, rabbits are fantastic loyal companions. With my bunny I have seen this firsthand. My past bunny, Bean, was very hesitant at first. She would not allow me to pet her or sit with her. This is mostly due to their prey-oriented instinctual behavior. After a few months of her within my care, she grew trust in me and became my furry best friend. She would jump onto my bed all by herself to lay with me once we bonded. She was the best pet I've ever had.

Rabbits come in all shapes and sizes

Up to 50 different breeds of rabbits are recognized by the American Rabbit Breeders Association. Rabbits range in size growing up to only 2.5 pounds while other rabbits can be the size of a small dog weighing 22 pounds. Big or small, whichever size of rabbit you like, there is a right rabbit out there for anyone. They also range in hair thickness, length, and color. Some rabbits are giant fluff-balls while others have very short hair. Some rabbits are white, brown, black, grey, or a combination of colors. Fun Fact: Rabbits can be taught to do tricks!

Rabbits have the ability to learn tricks just as dogs can. With patience and time, rabbits can be taught almost any trick. My bunny Bean was able to learn to do a high0five and stand on her back paws.
